A 500-Year Science Experiment

For those interested in cultural conservation, this article (https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2019/01/500-year-long-scienc...) from The Atlantic on an attempt at a 500-year science experiment (on periodically growing bacteria) includes some interesting ideas.

The scientists are concerned about the obsolescence of computer technology such as flash drives. They ask the experimenters every 25 years to re-copy out the instructions to address current language and technology. There's also mention of trying to set up a foundation to fund a particular experiment for the very long term.
