"Crimson Forest" - A Bunching Onion

David Trammel's picture

I tried a couple of different bunching onions this year in containers. The only one that I had some success with is (I think) a Japanese variety named "Crimson Forest". I seeded it in a 2 gallon container and here they are after about 90 days.

As you can see they took to the container well, growing tall and full.

Here is a close up of the bulbs at the soil. They are fattening up nicely.

The onion gets its name from its dark red bulbs, though the color is only in the first few layers, deeper the onion is white.

Its supposed to have very flavorful taste. I'll let you know when I eat them. The stalks look ripe for a stir fry. Could be a good addition to your garden.
